Becoming a member of a large international organization such as NATO or the European Union has become a sign of success and prosperity for newer, less established state entities. And while there are definitely some sacrifices that come with becoming a part of an international organization, there are also many positive benefits that have been determined to outweigh these sacrifices. A loss of absolute sovereignty is a small price to pay in order to obtains perks such as economic advantages as well as political advantages, as well as being one step closer to achieving global stability in regards to politics. While there are different perspectives in regards to this theory, realists, liberals and constructivists will generally agree that states are better off as part of an international organization than they would be if these organizations simply did not exist. When looking from the perspective of a realist, it is important to look at the idea that a realist view focuses on the potential conflict and competition that arises within politics. A realist believes that individual states are the main actors in international relations. States will focus their power on their own national security, as well as their own interests and race for political power.
